Site: W54th - Bordered on North by Tilman Ave., bordered on South by Detroit Ave. Detroit Avenue maintains a dense commercial corridor from Downtown Cleveland to as far West as Rocky River. Along Detroit Ave. many neighborhood or community districts have centered such as the City of Lakewood, Ohio City, and the area in which our site sits the Detroit Shoreway. The areas adjacent to the site also include the Gordon Square Arts District and EcoCity Cleveland. The corridor in question offers many varied possibilities toward use of the site such as strengthening the commercial corridor, activating the residential areas or reacting to EcoCity. Specifically the site under study is around 300' (North-South) by 60' (East-West) bounded by commercial buildings and residential lots. Designers are asked to offer plans or ideas to activate the street through physical interventions. This may include altering the street in any way including closing the street to vehicular traffic is necessary. Consideration should be paid however, to current use and adjacent properties. There is the utmost flexibility for ideas. Sketch what you think is missing, what would make the area better, what is needed to create a proper sense of proportion, of use, of closure. Design what YOU would like to be there. |
